Permanent-Way Renewals
Like every heritage tramway/railway we face a constant battle to keep our track, overhead lines and supporting infrastructure in optimal condition. In our case this is hampered by the fact some of our track is over 120 years old and has never been out of the ground since! Even with the investment and maintenance our infrastructure recieves we are getting to a stage where we have to consider major works to ensure our long term operation.
With this in mind we have developed a plan over the next 4 years that will see a number of major infrastructure works taking place including the relaying of track and replacing of sleepers in both sections of our reserved track aswell as through the Whitegate crossing and the replacement and realignment of our hill track.
The realignment of our hill track will prove to be the largest project we have undertaken since the constructure of Lakeside depot 10 years ago, involving the removal of track and overhead line from its current position and the laying of new infrastructure, aswell as road a road crossing on the opposite side to that which we currently run. In addition to this surveys are being carried out to determine if a culvert running under the line will have to be strengthened.
Naturally this will be a huge draw on both our manpower and finances. If you would like to help you could consider donating, or if you would like to get involved visit our Join Us page, no experience needed!
