Rawtenstall 23 is a single deck 4-wheeled tram dating from 1912. It operated until withdrawal in 1932 when the body was purchased for use as a residential garden shed. Spending a few decades out in the open 23 was acquired for preservation and transported to Manchester. Due to storage issues at the time the body was carefully dismantled and the parts stored in various places. The method of dismantling meant that when the time comes for 23’s restoration all the original parts remain with as many in a reusable condition as possible. A four wheel truck, complete with motors, was acquired for eventual use with 23. Rawtenstall used a narrow track gauge compared to most systems meaning that even if the original truck has survived, it wouldn’t have been usable for the restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
